About this class:
In the Spring 2019 session of this course, we will focus on phrasing
and how to shape beautiful musical lines. We'll see how phrasing
affects the character of our playing. We'll cover breathing
techniques to help our playing as well to help relax us while we are
playing. Along the way, we'll improve our technique and skills.
Some topics may include:
♦ How to play using balanced phrasing
♦ Working with/improving breath capacity
♦ Shaping musical phrases
♦ Playing with ease
* A pentatonic Native American flute is required for this class. If
you need one, a high quality flute will be provided upon request for
an additional $70.
Instuctor: Cornell Kinderknecht
is an award-winning World Flutes
performing and recording artist as well as a teacher. In addition to
his own solo albums, his work can be heard on numerous other artists'
recordings across many genres. He has a private studio of flute
students in Dallas and is in demand as a performer and presenter at
music workshops and festivals around the US. With his expertise, he
provides practical interactive instruction while his light-hearted
approach puts students at ease. Cornell is an Indian Summer Music
Awards winner, an early round Grammy nominee, and twice a Texas Music
Awards finalist. He is currently the Director of the Pacific Northwest Flute Gathering and music co-director of the Dallas Recorder Society.
Requirements / Pre-requisites:
Requirements for this course:
- Students should have either one of these pre-requisites:
- Attended previous levels (1 & 2) in this series of classes
- Intermediate through advanced experince with the Native flute
- Fluency with the basic NAF scale and some experience in the
- Experience with NAF tablature is suggested.
- A pentatonic Native American flute is required for this class. If
you need one, a high-quality flute will be provided upon request ($70
material cost). The key of A-minor is prefered for exercises that we
play together as a class.
- Curiosity, willingness to experiment, and a the
desire to have fun while learning music.
